Assessment and RFP Process

The Asian Art Museum is undergoing a $90 million expansion project that will add gallery space, a rooftop Art Terrace, and additional public spaces. The museum engaged JGL in 2014 to assess the current food service operations, with an eye toward fulfilling the promise of an expanded museum. Like other attractions across the country, the museum sought to develop a food service amenity that not only complemented the overall museum experience, but also served as a destination itself. JGL determined a restaurateur with an existing name would be the best match and went to work.

Feasibility Study, Assessment and RFP Process

The Peabody Essex Museum is undergoing a major multimillion dollar renovation. JGL was retained to do an assessment followed by an RFP. The RFP process was unique as the Museum was interested in exploring a variety of models for food service operations. JGL developed an RFP that allowed bidders to submit for one of three options; exclusive caterer and café operator, one of the preferred caterers, or finally café operator and preferred caterer. JGL believes that every process should be evaluated on an individual basis…every project is unique!

RFP Processes

The Walker Art Center was preparing to break ground on an ambitious $75 million transformation project that would re-orient the main entrance and add a restaurant with outdoor seating at the new front entrance. JGL was familiar with the client and the operations as we provided an assessment and management of an RFP in 2010. Initial plans were to stay with the current vendor for the short term, but JGL made an impassioned plea to the team to consider their options. The Walker team wanted a destination restaurant and the existing operator was not bullish on the opportunity.
